Why are wind powered cars not on the streets?

BECAUSE THEY CAN’T POSSIBLY WORK, the drag of the wind turbine as it spins is going to be more than the energy generated.

Solar powered cars can work but are basically just stunts that don’t work at night, don’t have an air conditioner, only carry one person, have no crash worthiness and are pretty much only useful in the Australian desert (not exactly a place where you want to be without an air conditioner).

Electric cars lack the range and quick refuelling of petrol engined cars which was why they lost out in the market back a long time ago (electric cars once outsold petrol cars).

If you want a source you’ll have to go and find it yourself.

Electric cars? Look up the new Chevy Volt electric car, due out in 2010. It will run on electricity and have a gas motor to recharge the batteries. It will revolutionize the auto industry and make General Motors a lot of money.

as far as solar powered cars, if you cover the entire surface of the average car with solar cells you can get enough electricity to run a 3 horse power motor for the few hours a day that the sun is high in the sky. as long as there are no trees, buildings or clouds in the way.
the cells can charge the battery’s while the car is parked though.
wind powered cars are just plain unfeasible, they cant be made to work.
the chevy volt that their working on is supposed to go 40 miles on the fully charged battery’s as long as you don’t need a heater, windshield wipers or a radio. after 40 miles its a normal gasoline engined car.
in cold weather it wont go that far because cold reduces battery efficiency.
keep in mind, electric cars that you plug into a socket to recharge, actually run on fossil fuel because most of our electricity is generated from natural gas & coal burning plants .

Just stop and think about wind powered cars. It could only go as fast as the wind and when the wind stopped it would stop. You could only go in the direction of the wind. So if the wind was right going to school it would not work going home. You might be able to go to the grocery store, but couldn’t go back home. To drive around the block you would need to wait for the wind to blow in 4 different directions. If you used a windmill on top of your car that was hooked up to batteries to store the energy, you would use up the energy overcoming the resistance of the the windmill, net movement =0

I recommend the movie “who killed the electric car.”

there are wind powered cars that race on flat desert, or in the snow. there are wind powered boats. hm mm. any electric car that gets its energy from a wind farm could be called wind powered.

solar cars are low speed, ultra-light, 1 to 2 hp vehicles.

check out “sun racer” and “ventomobile”

Try studying and U would know that the solar panel would not fit on an 18 wheel trailer that would give U the power U need.
