Making one yourself may be cost efficient, to buy one takes 20 years or so to pay for itself. To make. Make a windmill, connect to a dynamo and wire to big batteries.
I made mine wind power generator and its saving me some good money I use it to power various things inside and outside my house. I found the best source of info for this at:
You have to take into consideration the speed and duration of wind in your area. Most wind power generator available in the market are very expensive to acquire and to maintain. If you want to build an experimental wind generator you can use a car alternator as your dynamo to charge your battery, but you have to design a good wind turbine that will spin even at the weakest wind. Goodluck!
You could take a look at a new DIY guide that was released recently. It’s called Earth4Energy and it promises step-by-step instructions for building your own wind generator and your own solar panels.
